Grapes watercolour

Grapes watercolour

My mum kept saying that I should have a go at painting some grapes.
A couple of friends suggested to use white gouache over the watercolour to get the patchy effect, but I found I didn't need it in the end.  Thought they looked ok as they are.  I might try the gouache suggestion next time I paint grapes though.

Josie watercolour

Josie watercolour

After painting the oil of Marlowe I felt I needed to do another watercolour.
I wanted to paint my friends Labrador Josie for a while as she is such a pretty girl.  Just playing around, but it came out nicer than I expected, so I framed it up and gave it to my friend Eileen.  She was very happy.

Marlowe at Hampton Gay

Marlowe at Hampton Gay - Oil

Have been having fun trying out oil paints again.  This time I thought I would try something a little more complicated.  Painted from a photo I took whilst walking Marlowe up by Hampton Gay manor house ruins.
Will let it dry and go over with retouching varnish in case I need to change anything else on it.  Looking forward to getting it framed up and hung safely out of the reach of our animals.

The lovely barn owl we have living next door to us.  She's so beautiful and so friendly too.

Painting for Derek

Painting for Derek - Oils

My dear friend Derek asked me to complete a portrait of his daughter for him.
I am not confident in oils yet, but feel a lot happier using them now I've done this portrait.
I hope he likes the result when I show him.

Apples

I can't seem to stop painting apples!  I think I love the variation in colours so much.
I thought I would try this picture in a dark wood frame to see what it looked like.

Orchid watercolour

I thought it would be nice to try to paint my orchid.
It was a bit of a challenge painting this as I used some smooth watercolour paper which I hadn't used before.  The way it absorbed the water was quite different to what I have been getting used to with the rougher paper.

Looking forward to getting this framed.

First Pastel

Fancied trying out a pastel picture.
I haven't tried pastels before.  I was wondering what they were like to use.  It's been fun trying them, I will try again for sure.

First go in oils for a very long time.
Need to try more to get my confidence up in this medium.
